Do you ever mourn the person that you once were?

It’s a trip how one’s ego motivates you for a long time. For over 20 years, painting graffiti was all I ever gave a shit about. That and making sure my profession was somewhat creative.

Then my mom died in 2006 and even though I still painted, the desire to paint consistently started to fade away. I’m not going into details, but other people ruined it for me too.

Your consciousness changes over time. You are the same person but different.

I didn’t realize that I would also experience a death of some sorts, but I did. I’ve died over and over.

While people bring photos of their loved ones to work, I bring my rocks lol. Everything I say sounds crazy anyways but for a Fire/Air/Air dominant person – the stones actually ground me into the present moment. They literally keep me from floating away.

Here’s a video of one of my favorite Labradorite stones. Labradorite is a stone of magic and protection, I always have a Labradorite stone in my pocket when I’m driving. According to Gemini:

January 18, 2026 – I’m revisiting old posts of mine, looking at old paintings and writings. Our thoughts and feelings always need to be expressed no matter what and that’s why I keep this blog around. I was inspired by Buddhist / Tibetan spiritual paintings at the time.

Is strange, weird, beautiful, synchronistic…

and that I’ve been on it all along.

I am able to recognize it now that I look back at what I’ve painted; and only now am I able to understand why I have been drawn to certain symbols and themes in my paintings and drawings.

But like most people, I was drawn to occult imagery first because I thought it was cool; not having any actual understanding of the symbols used.

This one is titled “Self Absorbed” from 2008, only now I could say it was more about self-discovery, self-development, knowing thyself. This is a self-portrait of me, sitting on a lotus flower like you see in Buddhist paintings. But there are also different faces or sides of me (left & right).

At the time, I wasn’t even meditating. Or perhaps I was and wasn’t even aware? I was always writing, blogging and sharing my thoughts with a handful of friends so perhaps that is how things were actually manifesting.

Friday 08-29-25 – I have typography heavy on my mind right now for no reason so I am bumping this up.

063016: I have an affinity for handpainted lettering and typography – gothic, script, ornamental, etc. Basically the hard-to-read ones that aren’t normally used in advertising – because although they’re lovely to look at, they’re kind of hard to read.

I drew this up a few years ago. I find that when I’m annoyed with something or someone, it tends to fuel some of my artwork on a subconscious level. I don’t even remember who it was in particular, it could’ve been a few random people who I just stumbled upon on internetland. I guess it bugs me when people hella show off or try too hard – they’re either screaming “hey look at me, I’m doing something” or “hey look at me, I post nothing but bullshit…but I want you to think it’s NOT bullshit”. So at the time I made this, that’s what staying relevant meant to me: people who just do useless things in order to remain in the minds of the general public, like celebrities who are famous – you don’t even know what they’re famous for.

Well fast forward to now. Being a jack-of-all-trades in content marketing and design, I’m starting to understand what staying relevant means from this angle:

+ Posting images and using words that you wouldn’t normally say to catch the attention of a potential client or buyer.

+ Being in the customer mindset, thinking like them so you can better predict what they are most likely to buy from you.

+ Paying attention to the latest in technology, social media, pop culture and anything related to it.

Don’t get it twisted, I’m not a fan of the last bullet point. I don’t like having to keep up with any of it, especially anything that’s cool and trendy. But since we’re in a global market now, meaning everyone is either buying or selling something whether it’s their art, music, creative services – we could all stand to stay relevant somehow by learning something new everyday and applying it to ourselves.

Keep your mind open to possibilities and opportunity, no matter what age you are.

I told myself that I would snap out of this AI-generated tool craze and get back to creating something everyday, even if it looks like crap. I know I won’t be consistent with this (as with every project I start then abandon) but I need to get back to making things. Yes, messing around with AI can be fun but let’s not lose who we are as a human species whose inherent nature is to create.

So yes, I’m going to do my best even if I am inconsistent.

I am also really thankful to have ended up where I am in life.
